midwifery billing Question & Answers
How can you support my out-of-network clients with insurance?
I offer verification of benefits and create personalized, itemized superbill statements for home and birth center clients. If your client transfers or transports, I can itemize accordingly to reflect the care provided. These superbills are designed to be as straightforward as possible for your clients to submit and get reimbursed efficiently.
To make things even easier, I’ll create a custom webpage just for your clients where they can reach out to me directly to request services.
Do you submit insurance claims?
For in-network midwives and birth centers, I offer full claims submission services.
If you’re out-of-network, I typically provide itemized superbills for your clients to submit themselves. However, if you'd prefer to have claims submitted on their behalf, I'm happy to discuss this option with you individually. I tailor my support based on your preferences and your clients' needs.
I'm a low-volume midwife. Can I still work with you?
Absolutely. Whether you have one client or twenty, I’m happy to support you. Volume is not a barrier to working together.
How quickly will you respond to my clients?
I aim to respond to all inquiries within 24–48 hours.
Verification of Benefits: 3–5 business days after payment is received.
Superbills: Varies depending on when I receive birth details from you.
Claims Submission: Begins after services are rendered and documentation is complete.
how do you obtain the information needed to create itemized statements?
I have a hipaa compliant online form for midwives to enter in the maternity care information. Alternatively, I can work with your EMR system if you’d prefer. That said, I try to avoid increasing your EMR costs by adding additional users whenever possible.
WHAT ARE YOUR FEES?
My services are flat-rate. Here’s the breakdown:
$40 – Insurance benefit verification (per inquiry)
$40 – Re-verification (if benefits change mid-care or at year’s start)
$125 – Itemized superbill statement (includes up to three: Mom, baby, and birth center)
I believe in transparent pricing and honoring your time and your clients’ needs. If you decide to go in-network down the road, I’ll happily provide my claims submission rates at that time.
i want to get credentialed and contracted with one or more insurance company. how do i start that process?
This is a service that I provide for midwives who contract with me as their biller. I am happy to speak with you more about this service upon request.
I'm ready to get started—what’s next?
I tailor my services to each midwife and birth center. Once you're ready, I’ll send over a secure link to complete my Billing Services Agreement and share your demographic info. The agreement outlines my fees and includes a commitment from both of us to maintain accurate records of care provided.
Please let me know any questions you may have as I am happy to answer.
